Detention Center Ministry

Members of Immanuel currently minister to inmates at the Sumter-Lee County Detention Center. A ministry team from Immanuel visits with male inmates every Sunday afternoon while the ladies ministry group visits female inmates when there is a fifth Sunday in the month. Immanuel also is involved in a ministry program to link with adult offenders who are re-entering the Sumter Community.

Immanuel has named this program 'Stand By Me'.Not only is Stand By Me a ministry recognized by the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services (SCDPPPS) and Sumter Lee Regional Detention Center (SLRDC), it has also been approved as a ministry of the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC). Immanuel’s ministry is expanding!

Ministry at the South Carolina Department of Corrections will be designed to facilitate continued spiritual transformation, enhanced re-entry, and reduced recidivism among the men and women with whom ministry will occur. Bible studies may be offered as scheduled through SCDC. Faith-based life skills studies addressing thinking errors, anger, healing, and parenthood will equip incarcerated friends to address challenges during incarceration and throughout re-entry to the community. Ministry volunteers will conduct life planning meetings throughout incarceration to assist incarcerated friends as they identify needs, set goals and make preparations for re-entry. In addition to spiritual support, preparations to address physical needs will be made with the assistance of community, social service and governmental agencies prior to release. Ministry may vary as determined by the needs of the incarcerated housed at each facility.

How exciting to have the opportunity to stand with men and women with whom ministry has begun at SLRDC!  And even more exciting to have the opportunity to witness the Lord at work in the lives of our incarcerated friends!
